Before and After Images

Before

After

The first picture is a raw image of runner Brian Simental, hence the before label. The second image was toned-up in photo shop.

Student Magazine Cover

Magazine Wanderer was entirely made and designed by students from Columbia College Chicago. It took about two semesters to get it done. First, students had to go to Peru and write about their trip. Then another group of about 20 students took those articles, and created a cover which is what you see, and laid them out for the publication.

The Seventh Modern Wonder of the World

Lauren Wille is a student from Columbia College Chicago. During the J-Term semester in the winter, a group of journalism and photography students went to Peru to write about their adventures in South America. This controversial story talks about, the possibly, true story of who really discovered Machu Picchu.

The layout of the story was done by me and it is for a student publication.

A Restored Photo

This picture originally looked very old. Parts of the background were missing and the color on the woman's face was blotchy.

Another Photo Restoration

The photo was originally very blur with a lot of details that made it look old. I worked with the photo to the best of my ability to restore it and make it look fresh and new again. Actually, the photo was provided by our teacher for Visual Journalism class and after we completed this assignment-of restoring the photo- we found out that the woman sitting on the throne is our teacher Elio from a play he was in years ago.

Spring Break 2010

This chart takes the hassle out of having to research for low airfares to Cancun for Spring Break 2010. I did the research for you. Here are five different search engines with seven different categories to compare them to.

This is an article about a study done at the University of Chicago that found life gets better as one ages. Therefore, elderly people are found to be the happiest amongst society. I decided to layout this article with two different pictures of a caucasian and an African-American couple, because the article states that one's nationality does not contribute to their happiness later in life. The pull out quotes are in red in order for them to stand out to the reader.

Magazine Logo

The logo Student Wanderer is for a magazine written by students from Columbia College Chicago. The students took a travel writing class in Peru for the J-mester winter term. The Visual Journalism class decided on the name for the magazine and is also going to layout and design the magazine. Here are samples of how I think the magazine's title should look like.

Annoyed

This is a picture of abstract art representing the emotion annoyed. In the center, is a circle taking the place of a person who is keeping to themselves. The circle is shaded from black to white representing their rebellion and anger slowly building up so they can strike back at whatever or whomever is bothering them. Surrounding, are red line points and red and blue zig-zags symbolizing the annoyance striking at the person. The red is the annoying act itself and the blue color is the act of trying to emotionally bring down the person to make them also be upset. The black zig-zag lines around the circle is the person trying to protect themselves.

Black and White Composition of a Dream Land

This is a picture of a bedroom. The set of the bed, dresser, etc. were influenced and inspired by my own bedroom. I named this piece "Dream Land" because I think one's own bedroom is a Safe Haven. I feel that it is the one and only place in the world where you can totally let your guard down because nothing or no one can bother you; that is of course if you do not have to share your room with anyone else.

The color of the stairs leading up to the bedroom become lighter as they ascend and this represents relief; that everything is getting better.

At the very top is a window. It is shaded lighter on the right , in connection with the top of the bed being light as well. The light shading is representing the person's calmness and dreams floating around. The stars on each side of the bed represent miscellaneous: night table, lamp, etc. Across the bed is a dresser. It being a dark color does not have anything to do with the feeling of the room. It is just black.
